Of Castles and Oreos

by Brenda on April 22, 2008

My friend Chris has arrived, bearing the Foodstuffs of My People. Jif. Nilla Wafers. REAL Maple Syrup. A&W ROOT BEER! I am so happy.

Foodstuffs of My People

We haven’t seen each other in eight years, and it is wonderful to be in his company again.

I’m showing him Wales. He’s cooking me food. Any hope I had of “dropping a few” before I hit the cruise ship in a few weeks has been utterly abandoned. To a good cause. He’s an amazing cook, and it’s just one of the things he does with great passion. He’s a registered nurse, lives in Wyoming, is gay, and single. Did I mention he’s a great cook? Just saying…

Blogging will be sporadic at best over the next month or so. During a recent run down of my schedule for April and May, Z likened it to a Death March of Fun, which would be a lot funnier if it weren’t true. Chris’ arrival signals the beginning of said march. More, as and when.

I would miss Cheetos and blueberry muffins. But then you have clotted cream, yummy scones, real bread, and the best breakfasts. What a nice treat.

i can so relate — when I was in college I spent the entire fall in Greece. Met a sailor on the Nimitz, went on board and was blown away by blueberry muffins — who knew?

Are there not Ziploc bags or Press and Seal comparables in Wales? All the other items seem to be comestibles — just wondering!

Ah ha! I spied that chili sauce stuff. That’s a staple for us since my childhood. We all love the “pour the chili sauce over cream cheese and dip the wheat thins” appetizer. If we’re feeling flush there’s baby shrimp on the top. Yum. Enjoy your goodies.

Holy Cow! No A&W Root Beer in Wales? Do they have Root Beer PERIOD???
And believe me; A1 *is* really that important. Congrats on the consumption of food from the ‘homeland’!

When I was living in England my junior year in college, all I wanted was Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. Finally found it in a gourmet grocer in Woodstock. Oh, the joy! Who knew Mac & Cheese was a delicacy?

The A-1 is to go with the jerky, right? Or is the peanut butter for the jerky, and the A-1 for the peanut butter cups?
